Mariah Carey got a little tipsy at the International Film Festival awards gala and gave a long rambling acceptance speech after being named Breakthrough Actress for her role in “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire.” Read more below and see video of Mariah Carey’s drunken speech below.
Mariah Carey accepted her award with “Precious” director Lee Daniels, who escorted the drunken mess onto the stage.
Carey hesitated on stage and sighed and said, “Please forgive me, because I’m a little bit, um …” A member of the audience finished her sentence and Carey replied, “Yeah!” laughing.
“Oooooooh, my goodness!” she bellowed.
Mariah praised Lee’s work and then suddenly began applauding.
“Sorry,” she told Daniels. “Sometimes I get a little …” Carey then stopped cold to snap her fingers, then added “… you know, difficult.”
Carey didn’t return to the stage Tuesday night, but everyone remembered her drunken speech. Before handing out a music award actor Sean Penn quipped, “Think anything’s going to make YouTube tonight?”
