Kanye West will definitely fuel up the conspiracy theorists when he releases his new video for “Power” tomorrow. I almost got sucked into the “conspiracy theories” after watching a “Religious Breakdown of Kanye West’s Power Performance At The Bet Awards” that circulated the internet a month ago. The video attempted to explain why he chose to perform on top of a mountain draped in red with a horus chain around his neck at the Awards Show. Sometimes I wonder if these hip hop artists insert satanic imagery (cue Jay-z’s “On To The Next One”) and subliminal messages in their videos/performances to get people talking or are they really on some other shitt and i like it.
In the meantime, a mini documentary on the making of the video has been released for your viewing pleasure. In the video clip, the director describes the meaning behind the Power video as “highly constructed, highly mannered, somewhat religious” piece that “communicates the ending of an empire”. What do you mean sometimes? They do that shit ALL THE TIME. I'm getting sick of seeing devil horns in rap videos. We get the point!
